I finished the first version of this painting two years ago, posted it and took it down a few days later because it wasn't yet right. For two more years I worked out my vision of what I am doing with contemporary figurative painting--using this painting as my laboratory. It is a true labor of love.
It is very loosely based on an old black and white photo of my aunt taken New Year's Day in 1949. Shortly after this moment she joined a convent and became a nun. She has served humanity as a teacher and a guide ever since.
